Ok Cinderella, it is time your first live poker game and you do not know what to wear to the ball?
Well here is the answer.
First and foremost you want to wear something that is physically and
emotionally comfortable to you. You should never be thinking about your
clothing or how you look when you are playing poker. If you are
over-conscious about your hair, maybe you should wear a hat, so you do
not think about it, etc. The real key here is trying to minimize
distractions.
Almost equally important is to wear something that fits into the
setting. If you are going to a private club to play poker, a t-shirt
probably is not appropriate. You would be far better server wearing a
golf shirt and khakis.
I do not think clothing is vital to a table image over the long term,
but you can use it to project a false table image over the short term.
For example, whenever I see someone wearing an Ultimate Bet hat and
Sunglasses that are so dark that they can barely see their cards, I
think that they are sucker, and they usually are. You might play off a
similar image the first time you play or you might try to look more
respectable in the hopes of receiving more respect at the table.

On Cavemen and Poker Players |

There are four possible outcomes for any session of poker. You might
win a little, lose a little, win a lot, or lose a lot. Most of us react
differently to the different outcomes. When we win big, we're elated;
when we lose big we're upset. Think back to some recent bad beats. Do
you recall feeling a rush of adrenaline and an overwhelming sense of
rage? If you haven't encountered this, you're lucky; most players have.
I believe that reactions at the poker table are so strong because the
game taps into a very primal portion of our brains. In poker, we're
fighting for something we view as critical - money. In these days of
relative safety and comfort, our battles at the poker table are as
close as we get to the life-and-death struggles that our ancient
ancestors encountered. Eons ago, the adrenaline served a purpose - it
triggered a response critical to survival. Without thought or reason,
ancient man knew two things: Fight or flee. The quick surge of panic
and anger kept the species alive. |

The Final Poker Battle at Borgata's 2006 Winter Poker Open |
|
Written by 72os Team

Thursday, 02 February 2006 |
Day Three of the World
Poker Tour main event at Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa is under wraps
and the field has been narrowed down to the final table of six players.
Starting out with 33 of 381 players, Wednesday was action packed and
saw the exit of many of Day Two's chip leaders.
Cliff "Johnny Bax," Joesphy, Full Tilt's Erik Seidel and the site's
online qualifier, Peter "Nordberg" Feldman, the founder of the European
Poker Tour, John Duthie, and top World Series of Poker tournament
circuit player, Don Mullis, all fell victim to losing hands that come
to all players at some point during marathon sessions of tournament
poker. Excellent play was displayed by all, but only six final players
would make it to vie for the Borgata Winter Poker Open title, a 2006
Cadillac Escalade, a $25,000 seat into World Poker tour's championship
event in April, and of course, the $1,173,373 first-place cash prize.
The big story of Day Three comes from the land of team Full Tilt yet
again. Chip leader, and without a doubt the most dominating player
throughout the day was Erick Lindgren. He currently has $2.635 million
in chips, and with his flawless game it will be difficult to dethrone
him from the leader board. |

The 5 P’s of Limit Holdem |
|
Written by Steve aka 4flush aka Vatrlrman

Saturday, 07 January 2006 |
This has developed over the years as a tool to keep focused on the
basics of the game and not get too far off the main road. When the
game starts to get frustrating and win rate’s decline, it is a good map
to find your way back to successful playing.
This will not be about game theory, how to play each hand or even what
to do in scenarios, I will leave that up to the authors of the many
books already out there. I do believe that a player should have a
guideline of hands they follow but like anything in poker, everything
depends on the situation.
I hope the 5 P’s will help you focus on the task at hand, making money
off other peoples mistakes. With a little variation, the 5 P’s could
extend over a lot of different games, but for this article I will deal
with Limit Holdem. |
